The version that came on Japanese PSPs. It is well known as being the easiest to play homebrew on as there are no 'tricks' required to boot unsigned files. There is no way to downgrade to 1.0 aside from a mod chip.

The version that came on Non-Japanese PSPs. It is possible to downgrade to 1.5 through various methods. It is marked by the absense of any letter, or the letter A, on the box.

A bugfix release of 1.5 and adds no features. It does prevent unsigned code from running. It is designated on the box by the letter B.

A bugfix release of 1.5 and adds UMD music to the main menu. It does prevent unsigned code from running. It is designated on the box by the letter C.

Adds some significant features such as a web browser and the ability to watch a form of h.264 videos. It can run homebrew through an image exploit. It is marked on the box by the letter F.

MP4(AVC) has been added as a playable file format under Video.

An Image transfer feature has been added.

The sceKernalLoadExec bug has patched, but the patch opens the sceOpenRegistry exploit.

Fixes the libtiff exploit, allows the PSP to recognize memory sticks with more than 4GB of space, and adds the ability to play music, videos, and images from folders at the root level of the memory stick. It is unknown what box letter this firmware uses.

When playing PSone games on a PSP, you can now customize how the buttons are assigned by going to Controller Settings>Assign Buttons, and selecting custom.

You can now quit Remote Play and choose to turn off your PS3 or leave it on after quitting, which is useful if you are performing a download and want to quit Remote Play, but still want your download to continue on the PS3. Select Quit and Turn Off The PS3 System or Quit Without Turning Off The PS3 System from Quit Remote Play when you press the HOME(PS Button for PSP3000/Go) on the PSP system.
